In Gothenburg, Sweden, on April 29, 2024, automotive innovation leaped forward as Polestar, in collaboration with battery technology leader StoreDot, unveiled the successful integration of Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) technology in a vehicle—a world first. Demonstrating this breakthrough on a fully drivable Polestar 5 prototype, the team achieved a charging milestone by elevating the car’s battery from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes. The test began at a charge rate of 310 kW and impressively climbed to over 370 kW, showcasing consistent efficiency throughout the process. This landmark test not only marks a significant advancement in electric vehicle (EV) technology but also a potential paradigm shift in EV driving dynamics, promising a specially engineered 77 kWh battery pack that could be scaled up to 100 kWh, capable of adding approximately 200 miles of range in just ten minutes.

Donald Trump’s recent engagement with Elon Musk, as reported in his CNBC’s SquawkBox interview, illuminates the complex interplay between personal alliances and political postures in the former president’s campaign strategies. Despite potentially seeking Musk’s support for his presidential bid, Trump’s stance on electric vehicles (EVs) remains staunchly critical, casting doubt on their feasibility due to what he describes as their limited range, high cost, and predominantly Chinese manufacturing. Trump’s disparagement extends to broader energy policies under President Biden, whom he accuses of orchestrating a “very, very stupid” all-electric mandate amid what he calls an “obsolete and a disaster” US electric grid.

Washington Post Tells Consumers How to Find Cheap EVs

The landscape of the used electric vehicle (EV) market is rapidly changing, offering consumers more affordable options than ever before. This shift is predominantly driven by Tesla’s recent aggressive pricing strategies aimed at retaining its dominant position, now accounting for 51 percent of the U.S. EV market. Following Tesla’s lead, significant price reductions have been observed across nearly all EV models.

A prime example is the 2021 Tesla Model Y, which has plummeted from $71,000 in July 2022 to $32,000 today, as reported by Edmunds. More striking is the Tesla Model 3, which now costs around $25,000—15 percent less than the average used gasoline car. These reductions reflect a broader trend influenced by international competitors like China’s BYD, whose low-priced models, such as the $13,900 Dolphin and the Seagull priced under $10,000, are redefining affordability in the EV space. Although these cars are currently unavailable in the United States due to tariffs and geopolitical concerns, their presence in global markets continues to drive down prices elsewhere.
